Evidence-based practice (EBP) involves applying research finding to client care. We take the best evidence available and integrate it with our clinical knowledge and skills to provide the best therapy for our client’s unique needs and personal preferences. If used consistently EBP increased the likelihood of achieving client goals. Using EBP means letting go of outdated service practice and choosing effective, scientifically validated methods to deliver services that meet client needs. While research is about developing new knowledge, the key component of EBP is to use the best available evidence to make informed client care decisions. Most of the best evidence comes from research but EBP goes beyond research and includes the clinical expertise of the clinician and team and well as client preferences and values.
